Why the name Emmaus? The word Emmaus comes from the story in the Gospel of Luke. Emmaus is a place that may have been near Jerusalem. Following Jesus' resurrection, some of the disciples were walking along the road to Emmaus when they encountered a stranger. They visited with the stranger for a while, and then continued their journey to Jerusalem. It was only later that they realized that the stranger was really Jesus. This story from the Gospel reminds us to look carefully, for Jesus is there to be found in everyone we meet.
